Best Time to Travel:

To experience Sapa at its most enchanting, plan your visit during the dry season from September to November. During these months, the weather is mild, the skies are clear, and the terraced rice fields unveil their lush green hues, creating a picturesque backdrop for your exploration. Also if you are traveling during these months make sure to pack warm clothes because it can get cold from time to time.

Must-Sees in Your Itinerary:

As you walk across Lao Chai Village within the valley, discover more than just picturesque scenery. Engage with the local H’Mong ethnic community, witness their daily life, and absorb the cultural richness that defines this tranquil haven.

2. Fansipan Peak: this is Vietnam’s highest peak, know as the “Roof of Indochina.” You have two options to go up: embark on a breathtaking trek to the summit or enjoy the beautiful views of the valley from the comfort of a cable car. From the pinnacle, panoramic views unfold, revealing a beautiful view of the majestic mountains that embrace Sapa.

Here you will find the tickets for the cable car and to go up the peak. Also for the ones interested in going up in the trek here is the tour that we recommend.

3. Ham Rong Mountain: ascend to the summit, where breathtaking panoramic views become a reward for your ascent. The hike is not that difficult, during the ascent you can enjoy the vibrant floral gardens, stone forests, and winding trails. At the summit, enjoy the amazing views of Sapa and its surroundings.

4. Bac Ha Market: if you are in Sapa during a Sunday, immerse yourself in the vibrant Bac Ha Market. This spectacle is a celebration of diversity, where ethnic communities converge to showcase their traditions and local products.

Local guides are available to lead you on various trekking routes, tailored to your preferences and fitness level.

Also you can rent scooters to move around the valley, but our recommendation is that if you plan to trek through the valley by yourself from Sapa Town, ask for a taxi to drop you at the valley and then pick another one after the trek, to go back.

Our opinion of Sapa:

We loved our stay in Sapa, yet we sensed the town is evolving into a tourist hub (or as we say “an amusement park for tourist”), particularly in Sapa Town. In our opinion, Muong Hoa Valley steals the spotlight, a breathtaking trek through its rice terraces offers tranquility and the opportunity to see the culture of this place. We suggest dedicating one or two days in this peaceful place before a brief visit to Sapa Town. Fanispan is budget-dependent, because for us was really pricey for what you get in return, and Cat Cat Village feels super overrated, also in our eyes is a tourist trap, is much better the tranquility and beauty of Lao Chai Village.
