Our opinion of Ella:

We fell in love with the vibe of this area, you are surrounded by nature, with countless hikes and waterfalls to explore. If you are a tea enthusiast, the tea plantations are a must-visit, though we must admit, it wasn’t our cup of tea, as we are not massive tea lovers. Despite that, we highly recommend adding Ella to your itinerary. While the town center can get a bit crowded, there’s plenty to do outside of it, allowing you to skip the hustle and bustle if you prefer. And don’t miss the chance to try lamprais, a traditional dish originally from this area. It’s one of our favorite Sri Lankan dishes, and we didn’t find it in other parts of the country! Ella truly offers a unique blend of natural beauty, adventure, and local cuisine, making it a destination worth experiencing.
